If you have a question which is not covered here please give us a call on 01477 270828 or email us at info@loomefabrics.co.uk
Q : Do you have a showroom where I can see your fabrics?
A : By operating purely as an online store we are able to keep our costs down, and thus provide our fabrics at a more competitive price than if we ran a physical store. We supply free samples on all our fabrics, and there is also the option to order large samples to get a better feel for fabrics that are of particular interest to you.
Q : Can I use your any your fabrics for any domestic purpose?
A : Most of our ranges are suitable for upholstery or loose covers, although some of our products are only suitable for curtains. The uses of each fabric are indicated in the product specification. If you need extra-durable fabrics then please select from our child friendly or pet friendly ranges. Most of our fabrics are available with Flame Retardant (FR) treatment which may be specified by your upholsterer. Alternatively we can arrange for any non-FR fabric to be treated with FR backing. Fabrics that are not FR treated can also be used with a separate FR inter-liner if necessary.
Q : Do you sell washable fabrics?
A : Yes. Please our “browse by” filter and click the “washable” check box to see which fabrics are washable. None of our fabrics should be washed at above 30 degree wash cycle. After washing covers should be pulled back into shape and allowed to dry naturally – i.e., do not expose to a direct heat source such as a tumble dryer or radiator. For further details please see here
Q : What about shrinkage?
A : Those fabrics that are washable are subject to shrinkage rates of up to 5%. Please keep in mind that if made up into different shrinkage rates between fabric and lining are to be expected.
Q : What about fading?
A : All fabrics will suffer from a degree of fading due to either sunlight or washing. Take care to wash only at 30 degrees centigrade and, as far as practical, keep fabrics out of direct sunlight. If a chair or sofa has to be exposed to direct sunlight it is helpful to move its position from time to time to ‘even out’ any fading which may occur.
Q : Are the upholstery fabrics you sell fireproof?
A : Many of the fabrics that we sell are finished with flame retardant (FR) coating. This is indicated in the product specification. You can search for FR fabrics by ticking the FR box in our filter system.
If you like a fabric which is not already FR treated for upholstery, we can organise for fabric to be FR coated. The cost is £5 per metre, and the minimum order is 10mtrs. You will be sent a certificate with the cloth, for the work done. Please allow an extra 7 days for delivery.
Please note that the FR treatment process will cause shrinkage up to (and occasionally exceeding) 5%. Also, a fabric strip is removed prior to processing for evaluation and record keeping purposes. A similar strip is taken from the finished cloth for testing. This will amount to a total of approximately 50 cm being taken from the fabric submitted for coating. When calculating quantities, your upholsterer must make allowance for this. Alternatively, your upholsterer might prefer to use a flame proof interlining.
Q : Some of your fabrics are described as being ‘railroaded’ – what does this mean?
A : In `railroaded’ fabrics the design element runs from side to side on the roll and not down the roll. This mainly applies to striped fabrics. This removes the need to have joins on longer runs of upholstery such as the outside back or front border of a large sofa, meaning that less fabric is used. Generally only striped fabrics are railroaded.
Q : How wide are your fabrics?
A : They are generally between 138cm and 140cm wide.
Q : What lining should I use for curtains?
A : We recommend and sell only the best quality 100% cotton lining material [link to curtain lining material]. Consider using curtain interlining for an enhanced finish. For upholstery consider using an inter-lining fabric if the material is non FR.
Q : What about faults?
A : Natural fabrics such as cottons and linens may have some slight natural variations in the yarn which is not actually a ‘fault’ but just a feature of the cloth. We always inspect every order before dispatch and will not send out any fabrics which we determine to be unduly affected.
At Loome we only buy the highest quality fabrics from the best manufacturing sources and, consequently, we are confident that we always supply the best fabric with the best service.
Q : How long will it take for my fabric to arrive?
A : We aim for, and usually achieve, delivery within seven working days. If any item ordered is likely to be subject to a lead time of greater than 10 days we will contact you with an estimated delivery date and give you the option of a refund.
