Fade Resistant Fabric
Click on the images to the right to see any of our fade resistant fabrics. Fade resistance is an important quality of fabrics used in light exposed situations. Curtains, in particular, as well as upholstery which is positioned in areas which receive strong sunshine, should all use fade resistant fabric.
Light fastness ()fade resistance) of fabric is measured in the UK using British Test Method ISO 105/BO2 in which Xenon ARC light is directed onto the fabric at a defined intensity for set periods.
The resultant fading of the fabric is measured using another test (DIN 16525) by comparison to the blue scale for wool. The results for any fabric will be graded as:
1 very poor
2 poor
3 moderate
4 fairly good
5 good
6 very good
7 excellent
8 outstanding
All the fabrics on this page are graded 6 Very Good or higher and so are suitable for use in high light situations.
Fade Resistant Curtain Fabric
Curtains are particularly prone to fading, especially if they are used in a south facing window. At Loome we recommend the use of fade resistance curtain fabric when ever possible.
Fade Resistant Upholstery Fabric
If furniture is to be situated near to windows then fading is a concern. Use lightfast upholstery fabric to combat this problem, and as well as fade resistant upholstery fabric try to turn the furniture or change its position from time to time so that defined fade patterns do not start to show up on the cloth.
