Renaissance Upholstery and Curtain Fabrics
Renaissance interior fabrics (14th–17th centuries) were woven in luxurious silks, damasks, velvets and brocades, often shot with gold or silver threads. Designs featured bold pomegranates, vases, scrolling acanthus leaves, vines, and classical motifs, reflecting both wealth and learning. Deep, saturated colours such as crimson, burgundy, emerald and indigo dominated, with fabrics used for upholstery, wall hangings, bed drapery and church vestments to create interiors of splendour and authority.
Renaissance textiles balanced richness with order, featuring symmetrical repeats of pomegranates, acanthus leaves, vines and heraldic motifs. Woven in damasks, velvets and brocades, they reflected classical harmony and humanist ideals.
Baroque Upholstery and Curtain Fabrics
During the Baroque - 17th century to early 18th century (1600–1720) fabrics were bold and theatrical, with grand scrolling foliage, acanthus swirls and oversized florals often highlighted in gold or silver threads. They conveyed power and splendour in palaces and great houses.
Rococo Upholstery and Curtain Fabrics
Rococo period, mid 18th Century, (1730–1770) fabrics embraced lightness and elegance, decorated with delicate florals, ribbons, shells and chinoiserie motifs. Soft colours and playful patterns created interiors of grace and intimacy.
