Candace Wheeler Ivy Cotton Linen Print

Product Code: LF12601

From

£44.00 per metre

The “Ivy” textile, originally a printed cotton velvet, was produced between 1883 and 1900 by Associated Artists, the design firm founded by Candace Wheeler (aka The Mother of American Textile Design).

To create a sense of depth in the ivy pattern, Candace employed an offset roller-printing process. The design was first laid down in a pale green to suggest the background foliage. The same roller was then re-inked in a darker green and printed slightly out of alignment, producing a subtle shadowed effect and a striking impression of dimensionality.
